Vail Valley is located in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado, approximately 120 miles west of Denver. Vail's history begins with a vision. Created in 1962 by Pete Seibert, a former 10th Mountain Division soldier, and Earl Eaton, a local rancher, the vacation spot was built on the concept of an European-style ski village. Seibert, who trained with the elite 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale (located nearby), recognized the area's immense potential for skiing.
He envisioned a resort that would rival the optimal in Europe. From a former sheep pasture, Vail quickly grew into a premier ski destination, known for its expansive terrain, including the legendary Back Bowls. The 10th Mountain Division's legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Colorado's ski industry, as many veterans returned to establish or function in holiday resorts.
