Irkutsk is a major stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Direct trains connect Irkutsk to Moscow (approximately 3.5-4 days) and Vladivostok (approximately 2.5-3 days). International trains that go to Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) and Beijing (China) form part of the Trans-Mongolian Railway route.
Irkutsk Bus Station (Avtovokzal) offers connections to urban areas and towns within Irkutsk Oblast and adjacent regions. Frequent buses operate to Listvyanka, Bolshoye Goloustnoye, and Ust-Orda. Less frequent services can be used by Ulan-Ude. Numerous local coach operators operate these routes.
For travelers from abroad, the main land border crossings applicable to Irkutsk are with Mongolia. The crossing at Kyakhta/Altanbulag serves those traveling to or from Ulaanbaatar by bus or train. Valid visas for both countries are necessary.
