Mysuru Karnataka, India Travel Guide
Mysore Palace (Amba Vilas Palace) serves as the official residence and seat of the Wodeyars, the maharajas of Mysore. The current palace, completed in 1912 after a fire destroyed the old wooden palace, displays an impressive Indo-Saracenic architectural style. The palace grounds also house several temples.
Chamundi Hills, located just outside Mysore, offers panoramic views of the city. At its summit stands the Chamundeshwari Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga, the patron deity of the Wodeyar dynasty. This temple is an important Hindu pilgrimage site. On the way up the hill, a massive Nandi (bull) statue, carved from a single piece of rock, awaits visitors.
Weekends can be very busy in both Chamundi Hills and Mysore Palace. Photography inside the palace museum sections is limited. Tripods may not be allowed.
