Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración: This towering marble monument is the dominant symbol of Santiago. It commemorates the Dominican War of Restoration (1863-1865), a pivotal conflict against Spanish re-annexation. Dictator Rafael Trujillo originally built it considered as a monument to himself, but after his overthrow, it received a renaming to honor national heroes.
