Major Airports Serving Suqian

Suqian travelers usually fly into nearby airports. Xuzhou and Lianyungang offer domestic flights. Nanjing Lukou International Airport is a major international gateway, often the most convenient for travelers from other countries.

  • Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport (XUZ): ~70-80 km north, domestic flights, limited East Asian routes to other countries.
  • Lianyungang Baitabu Airport (LYG): ~80-90 km east, domestic flights.
  • Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG): ~200 km south, major international gateway with extensive connections.

Airlines and Routes

Major Chinese airlines operate domestic flights. Nanjing offers direct international flights from a lot of global cities. Flight rates vary seasonally.

Flight Information

  • Domestic Airlines: China Southern, China Eastern, Air China, Shenzhen Airlines, Spring Airlines.
  • International Flights: No direct international flights to Xuzhou/Lianyungang. Direct to Nanjing (NKG) from global cities.
  • Seasonal Rates: Domestic flights dearer during holidays/summer. Flight deals, Skyscanner for options.

Xuzhou / Lianyungang Transfers

Airport coach buses head to Suqian city center. Taxis outside the terminal or pre-arranged private transfers are alternative choices.

Nanjing NKG Transfers

Airport shuttle to Nanjing South Railway Station. Then, high-speed trains join directly to Suqian. Direct long-cross-country buses also run from Nanjing Airport to Suqian.

Airport Facilities

All airports (Xuzhou, Lianyungang, Nanjing) offer standard facilities: check-in, baggage claim, dining, retail, rental car agencies.

Train Connections

High-Speed Rail

  • Suqian Train Station on the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang High-Speed Railway.
  • Connections to Nanjing (~1.5-2 hrs), Shanghai (~3-4 hrs), Beijing (~4-FIVE hours).
  • Book via 12306.cn (Chinese) or Trip.com (English). Passport required.
  • Book in advance, especially for popular routes and peak travel.

Long-Distance Bus & Self-Driving

  • Suqian Long-Distance Bus Station connects to cities within Jiangsu and neighboring provinces.
  • Long-distance buses are an alternative for shorter to medium distances.
  • An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not valid in mainland China. Foreigners need a local Chinese driver's license.
  • Hiring a car with a driver is a practical option for tourists.

Road Conditions & Safety

Highways

Major highways are well-kept up and contemporary. Examples: G25 Changchun–Shenzhen Expressway, S49 Xinyi–Yangzhou Expressway.

Rural Roads

Rural roads can be less developed, with varied surfaces and conditions. Local signage is mainly in Mandarin.

Driving Safety

Driving within China can be challenging due to aggressive drivers, high volume of scooters, and people walking. Defensive driving is important.

Suqian is an inland city. It is not have direct sea or major river cruise ports for passenger ferry services or international cruise ship arrivals.

  • Immigration procedures are completed at international points of entry elsewhere inside China.
  • Recreational boat rides are available on Luoma Lake, but not for transit.

River Transportation

While the Grand Canal runs through Suqian, it mainly supports commercial shipping. It is not a common path for passenger transportation between cities.
