The Lanzhou Metro system is relatively new and expanding. Line 1 runs east-west, mainly along the Yellow River. Line 2 runs north-south, further enhancing urban connectivity. The subway is clean, fast, and generally easy to use.
The city boasts an extensive bus network covering virtually every part of Lanzhou. Buses are generally slower than the metro due to urban traffic, but they reach destinations the subway does not yet cover.
Fares range from ¥2-7, depending on distance. Single-ride tokens available.
Typically ¥1-2 per ride. Exact cash or mobile payment. Drivers often cannot offer change.
Metro: 6:30 AM - 10:30 PM. Buses: 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM (varies by route).

Whereas some rental options exist in Lanzhou, their applicability for foreign tourists varies, largely due to local regulations and traffic conditions.

Some major roads have dedicated bike lanes, but other vehicles may use them. Yellow River Riverside Path is safe and separated.

Download the Baidu Maps or Amap app before your trip. Even with a language barrier, the visual navigation and real-time updates for public transport are incredibly useful.
