Major Airports

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) is Alaska's largest airport. It handles most commercial flights into the state.

  • Border Crossing: Not applicable for travel within Alaska or from other U.S. States. The Kenai Peninsula is entirely within the United States.

  • Roads: The Seward Highway connects Anchorage to Seward. The Sterling Highway connects Tern Lake to Homer. Both are well-maintained, paved, and scenic.

Many designated pull-offs exist for beautiful vistas. Use these. Do not stop in the middle of the road. Use caution when pulling back onto the highway.

Plan your fuel stops. There are long stretches on the Sterling Highway where services are limited. Keep your tank at least half full. Help can be hours away in remote areas. Be a defensive driver.

The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) offers a a visually appealing way to travel through Alaska's coastal waters. Seward is a major turnaround port for many large cruise lines.

Coastal Access
