Denia Spain Travel Guide
Denia sits conveniently between two major airports: Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC), approximately 100 km south, and Valencia Manises Airport (VLC), approximately 110 km north.
Flight prices are highest during the summer high season (June-August) and major holidays like Easter and Christmas. Booking flights far in advance for peak season times secures better prices.
From Alicante Airport (ALC) to Denia, the direct ALSA bus service operates frequently. The the voyage is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes away from 1 hour 45 minutes, costing around €12-€15.
Private transfers or taxis from either airport are more expensive (approx. €100-€150+), but present direct, door-to-door convenience, especially having luggage or groups. Booking in advance is a recommendation.
Car rental is highly suggested for exploring the region around Denia. Rental desks for major companies are available in both airports (ALC, VLC) for direct travel.
Spain shares land borders with France, Portugal, Andorra, and Gibraltar. Standard Schengen Area border crossing procedures apply.
Denia does not have a direct national train (Renfe) connection. The regional L9 tram-train line connects Denia to Alicante. Note: Denia-Teulada section uses bus replacement due to modernization.
ALSA is the main long-distance bus company. Denia's bus station connects frequently to major Spanish cities (Valencia, Alicante, Madrid). Booking in advance is a recommendation.
Spain possesses an excellent road network, including well-maintained motorways (often toll roads like the AP-7) and national roads (like the N-332).
Rental companies typically require drivers to be at least 21 (sometimes 25 for certain car types) and to have held a license for 1-2 years.
Roads are generally in good condition. Be aware of speed limits, as traffic laws are strictly enforced. Denia itself has calmer traffic than larger cities.
Paid parking zones (zona azul) are common in the town center, requiring payment at meters (often limited to 1-2 hours). Several underground parking lots present longer-term paid parking.
Denia has a significant port, a working fishing port, and a commercial hub. Balearia is the main ferry operator connecting Denia with the Balearic Islands.
No specific exit fees or taxes apply for air or sea travel from Spain; they are typically included in your ticket price.
Arrive at Alicante or Valencia airport 2-3 hours before international flights (1.5-2 hours for Schengen/domestic). For ferry travel, check in at least 30-60 minutes before departure, or as advised by the operator.
