Ruter's system encompasses several types of transport: Metro (T-bane) with six lines, Trams (Trikk) also with six lines mainly covering central Oslo, a comprehensive system of day and night Buses, regular public Boats to inner Oslofjord islands, and Local trains (Vy) within Ruter fare zones. Jernbanetorget (Oslo Central Station) is the main interchange for metro, tram, bus, and train services. Nationaltheatret and Majorstuen are also important metro hubs. Generally, services are available from early morning (05:00) until late night (01:00-02:00 weekdays, later weekends). Frequency is high in central areas (every 5-10 minutes during peak hours).

Physical tickets are available at Narvesen/7-Eleven, Ruter's customer service, and ticket machines. However, the apps are generally favored for ease and cost.
