Oslo Norway Travel Guide

Public Transportation

Ruter's system encompasses several types of transport: Metro (T-bane) with six lines, Trams (Trikk) also with six lines mainly covering central Oslo, an extensive network of day and night Buses, regular public Boats to inner Oslofjord islands, and Local trains (Vy) within Ruter fare zones. Detailed route maps are available on the Ruter website (ruter.no) and through the RuterReise app.

Jernbanetorget (Oslo Main Station) is the main interchange for metro, tram, bus, and train services. Nationaltheatret and Majorstuen are also important metro hubs. Generally, services operate from early morning (05:00) until late night (01:00-02:00 weekdays, later weekends). Frequency is elevated in central areas (every 5-10 minutes during peak hours).

Ticketing & Passes

  • Single-journey tickets: Valid for a single hour (Zone 1) via RuterBillett app (NOK 42). On-board purchases are more expensive (NOK 62).
  • Period tickets: AROUND the clock (NOK 127 for Zone 1), 7, 30, 365 days. Unrestricted travel within selected zones.
