Isla Mujeres Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico Travel Guide
Colectivos (Shared Vans/Minibuses): These white vans operate by the main road that runs the length of the island. They travel from the ferry terminal area in downtown, south towards Punta Sur. Colectivos present a very economical way to navigate the island. They represent the closest thing to public bus service on Isla Mujeres.
Route Maps and Important Hubs: There is no formal route map for colectivos. They follow the main road, making stops upon request. You can flag them down anywhere along this route. The main "hub" is near the ferry terminal downtown, where vans gather and depart.
Taxis provide a convenient and readily available option. They are white with "Isla Mujeres" printed on the side and a taxi number.
Hail on street, find at stands (ferry terminal, downtown), or ask hotel. Fares are fixed for common routes. Always ask for price before entering to avoid misunderstanding.
Payment is almost always cash (pesos). Drivers may not accept USD or credit cards. Taxis on Isla Mujeres are generally safe. Use official cabs.
