The city's public bus system a broadly available plus widespread way to travel. San Luis Potosí does not have a metro or tram network. A network of urban buses (Rutas de camiones) operates, managed by various private companies, covering most of the city.
Buses generally operate from early morning, around 6:00 AM, until late evening, typically around 9:00-10:00 PM. Frequencies vary by route. Payment is typically originating from cash directly to the driver upon boarding. The fare is a fixed, low price for each ride, generally ranging from 10-15 MXN.
Formal digital route maps can be limited. Ask hotel personnel or locals for guidance on the correct "ruta" (route number) to your destination.
A few Spanish phrases like "¿Cuál autobús va a [destination]?" (Which bus goes to [destination]?) or "Una parada, por favor" (One stop, please) will greatly assist you.
Traffic can be heavy during peak hours (morning and late afternoon), so allow extra travel time. Buses might not announce stops clearly; use navigation apps or landmarks.
