Sea Arrivals

Main Ferry Port

Athinios Port, referred to as Thira Port, is Santorini's main ferry port. It is on the lower west side side of the island, about 8 kilometers from Fira. The port is built into the cliffside, and the access road is having a steep incline and winding.

  • Blue Star Ferries: Conventional, slower ferries, generally more stable.
  • Seajets: High-speed catamarans, faster, but susceptible to delays in choppy waters.

Cruise ships anchor in the caldera, as Santorini does not have a deep-water dock for large vessels. Passengers are tendered (transported by smaller boats) to the Old Port of Fira, located directly beneath the town.
