Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) is about 30-40 minutes drive south of Noosa Heads. It handles mainly domestic flights from major Australian cities. Brisbane Airport (BNE) is a major international and domestic hub, about 1.5 - 2 hours drive south of Noosa Heads. BNE has a wider range of international and domestic connections.

  • From MCY: Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Rex. Direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra.
  • From BNE: All major international airlines (Qantas, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, etc.) and domestic carriers. Direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dubai, Singapore, etc.
  • Seasonal Prices: Flight prices generally increase during Australian school holidays (mid-Dec to Jan, Easter, June-July, Sep-Oct). Book 3-6 months in advance for best prices.

Getting to Noosa

  • From MCY: Shuttle Bus (Con-X-ion), Taxi/Ride-share (AUD 70-100). Car Rental (Avis, Budget, Hertz). Public Transport (TransLink buses, less convenient).
  • From BNE: Shuttle Bus (Con-X-ion, 2-2.5 hrs). Train & Bus (Airtrain to Landsborough, then TransLink bus). Car Rental (1.5-2 hrs drive on M1). Taxi/Ride-share (expensive, AUD 250-350+).
  • Airport Facilities: MCY is smaller, basic. BNE has comprehensive facilities: dining, shopping, lounges.

Sunshine Coast Airport

Closer, domestic focus. Good for travel within Australia.

Brisbane Airport

Main international gateway. Wide range of connections.

Train & Bus Connections

  • Queensland Rail: Closest stations are Nambour or Landsborough (south of Noosa).
  • InterCity trains connect Brisbane to Nambour/Landsborough. From there, TransLink bus services (Route 620 or 622) reach Noosa Heads.
  • No direct train line reaches Noosa Heads.
  • Long-distance buses: Greyhound Australia and Premier Motor Service. Direct services from Brisbane to Noosa are available.

Self-Driving & Road Safety

  • License: Valid domestic license or International Driving Permit (if not English).
  • Driving Side: Left-hand side of the road. Roads are generally well-maintained (M1 motorway).
  • Traffic: Heavy around Brisbane peak times. Noosa can have congestion on Hastings Street.
  • Parking: Paid parking common in central Noosa Heads. Free parking further away with public transport links.

Driving Safety

Wildlife Alert

Watch for kangaroos and other wildlife, especially at dusk and dawn in rural areas. Collisions can be dangerous.

Fatigue Management

For longer drives, plan regular breaks every two hours to avoid driver fatigue.

Road Rules
