East Rock Park

Sleeping Giant State Park Hamden, ~10 miles north

Features a 1.5-mile tower trail leading to a stone observation tower with panoramic views of the Connecticut landscape. Trails range from moderate to challenging, with rocky ascents.

Hammonasset Beach State Park Madison, ~20 miles east

Connecticut's largest shoreline park, featuring extensive walking paths along the beach, birdwatching, and nature exploration. Its trails are generally easy and flat.

Water Sports & Cycling

  • Kayaking and paddleboarding opportunities appear on the Quinnipiac River, which flows through New Haven, and on Long Island Sound. Various outfitters and launching points exist in New Haven and nearby coastal towns.
  • These activities are mainly seasonal, best enjoyed in warmer months (June-September).
