Public Transportation

Mediterranean Coast, Turkey

The Dolmuş System

Ölüdeniz and Fethiye do not have a metro or tram system. The dolmuş (pronounced dol-moosh) serves as the main local public transport. Dolmuşes are shared minibuses operating on fixed routes but without fixed stops. They pick up and drop off passengers along their route, functioning as a hybrid between a bus and a shared taxi.

The most important dolmuş route connects Ölüdeniz beach, the central resort areas of Hisarönü and Ovacık, and the larger town of Fethiye. This route forms the region's lifeline, allowing easy movement between these popular spots. Dolmuşes run along the main road.

Dolmuş Info

  • Hailing: Stand by the side of the road on the dolmuş route and wave to signal the driver.
  • Disembarking: Tell the driver your destination when boarding, or say "Müsait bir yerde" ("at a convenient place") to get off.
  • Payment: Fares are paid directly to the driver in cash (Turkish Lira), typically upon boarding. Keep small denominations ready.
  • Fares: Fixed for specific routes. Ölüdeniz to Fethiye costs approximately TRY 30-50 per person. Prices are often displayed inside.

High Season Hours

Dolmuşes run very frequently, every 5-10 minutes, from early morning (6-7 AM) until past midnight.

Shoulder Season Hours

Service is less frequent, typically every 15-30 minutes, ending around 10-11 PM.

Low Season Hours

Service becomes very limited, often hourly or less. Some routes might not run. Confirm schedules with accommodation.

Navigating Dolmuşes

Hubs & Tips
  • Fethiye Otogar (Bus Terminal) is the main hub for long-distance buses and connecting dolmuşes.
  • Dolmuşes also circulate within Fethiye town, connecting neighborhoods and attractions.
  • Keep small Turkish Lira notes and coins for fares; drivers may not always have change.
Accessibility & Learning
  • Dolmuşes are typically standard minibuses and are generally not wheelchair accessible.
