Booking Strategies

Thoughtful booking strategies support securing your chosen accommodation and possibly saving money, notably during busy travel periods.

Advance Booking by Season

  • High Season (December-February): Booking accommodation several months in advance is needed. Popular hotels, B&Bs, and holiday parks often fill completely during this period. Many travelers secure bookings 6-12 months ahead.
  • Shoulder Season (March-May, September-November): Booking 1-2 months ahead is a good idea, especially for weekends or if your visit coincides with specific events. You will find more availability than in high season, but popular spots still fill.
  • Low Season (June-August): You will find more flexibility during the low season, but booking a few weeks in advance is still a good idea for desired properties or if you have specific requirements.

Booking Details

  • Policies: Deposit and cancellation policies vary by property and booking platform. Always check the specific deposit requirements and cancellation policies before confirming your reservation. Many properties ask for a deposit, especially for longer stays or peak season bookings. Understand the terms to avoid unexpected charges.
  • Price Changes: Prices are notably higher in the high season due to increased demand. They generally decrease during the shoulder and low seasons. Weekend rates often exceed weekday rates, regardless of the season.

Planning Tip

Advance Booking

For peak season travel, book your accommodation at least three to six months in advance.
