Indonesia
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali: The most common entry point for international travelers. Lombok International Airport (LOP) in Praya, Lombok: Closer to the Gili Islands, handling domestic and growing international routes.
Flight prices typically increase during Indonesia's peak tourist seasons (July-August and December-January) and around major holidays. Book well in advance during these periods.
Taxi or ride-share to Padang Bai or Serangan harbor (1-2 hours). Fast boat directly to Gili Trawangan or Gili Air (1.5-2.5 hours).
Taxi or private car transfer to Bangsal Harbor (1.5-2 hours). Public or private boat directly to Gili Meno (30-45 minutes).
Many tour operators and accommodations offer pre-booked combined car and boat transfers from Bali and Lombok airports. This option is seamless but more costly.
For visitors arriving in Indonesia by air, land border crossings are not applicable for reaching Gili Meno. All travel within Indonesia between islands is domestic.
No train services operate on Lombok or Bali that would connect directly to the Gili Islands. Long-distance bus services exist, but private car/taxi services or pre-booked shuttle buses to the harbors are more common and efficient for tourists.
Self-driving is possible on Lombok and Bali. An International Driving Permit is necessary with your home country's driver's license. Driving conditions in Indonesia can be challenging with heavy traffic and varying road quality. Most travelers opt for pre-arranged private car transfers.
Numerous fast boat companies operate daily services from various harbors in Bali (Padang Bai, Serangan, Sanur) directly to Gili Trawangan and Gili Air. Some companies offer direct routes to Gili Meno, but often, passengers disembark at Gili Trawangan or Gili Air and take a short local boat transfer to Gili Meno. These services are faster and more comfortable than public ferries.
From Bangsal Harbor on Lombok, public boats depart regularly to Gili Meno. These are slower and significantly cheaper than fast boats, departing when full. Private charter boats are available from Bangsal or Teluk Kodek (Lombok), or between the Gili Islands. These offer flexibility and direct transfers for a higher cost.
For international arrivals by private yacht, specific port clearance procedures are necessary.
Upon arrival at the Gili Meno jetty, horse carts (cidomos) and porters are available to transport your luggage and yourself to your accommodation. Many accommodations are within walking distance of the main jetty.
Plan your departure with sufficient buffer time, acknowledging island travel involves unforeseen delays.
