Safety First

Essential Documents

Travel Papers

Organization of your travel documents guards against problems and offers peace of mind. Keep these items secure and easily accessible.

  • Original passport and visa documentation (if applicable).
  • Printed and digital copies of travel insurance policy details.
  • International Driving Permit (IDP) if you plan to drive.
  • Vaccination records and health documentation.
  • Printed and digital copies of all reservations (flights, accommodation, tours).
  • Emergency contact information (family, embassy, bank).
  • Student/Senior/Press IDs for potential discounts.
  • Store digital copies in cloud storage or email them to yourself.

Technology & Electronics

Power & Connectivity

The Czech Republic uses 230V, 50Hz, with Type E and F plugs (two round pins). Most modern electronics are dual voltage (100-240V). A Travel power adapter for Europe is necessary. A Voltage converter is rarely needed for common travel electronics.

Mobile & Internet

  • Most modern Smartphones are unlocked and work with European GSM networks.
  • Consider a local Czech SIM card for affordable data or use ESIM.
  • NordVPN (Nordvpn.com) or ExpressVPN (Expressvpn.com) offer secure connections.

Camera & Charging

A good camera captures Kutná Hora's architecture. A Mirrorless camera or quality smartphone camera often works well. A Wide-angle lens can capture large structures. Bring extra batteries and memory cards. A Portable power bank is helpful for long sightseeing days.

Recommended Apps & Backups

  • Google Maps/Apple Maps for navigation (download offline maps).
  • Google Translate or DeepL for offline translation (download Czech pack).
  • Cloud storage (Google Drive/Dropbox) for photo/document backup. Consider an External hard drive.

Data & Device Protection

Device Compatibility

Check if your phone is unlocked for European networks. Confirm voltage for all electronics.

Data Backup

Regularly back up photos and important documents to cloud storage or a portable drive.

Security Software

Consider VPN services for secure browsing on public Wi-Fi networks.

Health & Wellness

Personal First Aid

A small, personalized health kit brings comfort and addresses minor ailments, letting you focus on your travels. A basic Travel first aid kit is a smart inclusion.

First Aid Kit Essentials

Medications & Hygiene

Carry all prescription medications in original, labeled containers. Bring a copy of your prescription or a doctor's letter for controlled substances. Pack enough for your trip plus a few extra days in your carry-on.

Over-the-Counter & Personal Care

  • Cold/flu remedies, antacids, motion sickness tablets (if needed).
  • Insect repellent (warmer months, wooded areas) and Sunscreen.
  • Travel sizes of preferred personal hygiene products for specific sensitivities.

Special Considerations

Altitude Sickness

  • Not a concern for Kutná Hora.
  • City is at a low elevation (approx. 320m).
  • No special precautions needed related to altitude.

Motion Sickness

  • Motion sickness remedies may be useful for bus or train travel.
  • Journey from Prague is relatively smooth.
  • Pack if you are sensitive to motion.

Activity-Specific Gear

Daypack

A Small daypack or Packable daypack is practical for daily essentials.

  • Carry water, snacks, camera.
  • Extra clothing layers.
  • Any small souvenirs.
  • Folds down to save space.

Lighting

A Headlamp or Flashlight is potentially useful for the Silver Mine Tour (though lighting is provided).

  • Good for dimly lit areas.
  • General utility after dark.
  • Navigating at night.
  • Hands-free illumination.

Exploration Aids

While not gear, a good map from the tourist office helps with self-guided tours.

  • Explore hidden courtyards.
  • Discover ancient wells.
  • Locate specific viewpoints.
  • Personalize your journey.

Rental vs. Purchase

Consider Renting When:

  • Your trip is short.
  • You have limited luggage space.
  • You want to try specialized gear.
  • Cost of purchase outweighs cost of rental for one trip.

Consider Purchasing When:

  • You travel frequently.
  • You require specific fits or customizations.
  • You prefer owning your equipment.
  • Long-term cost savings appear favorable.
