Important for Departure

Souvenirs & Shipping

If you purchased large or fragile souvenirs, inquire about international shipping at the General Post Office.

Ensure any purchased items receive permission for export; your guide advises on customs regulations.

Tax Refunds

Value Added Tax (VAT) refund procedures are not applicable in Bhutan.

The country does not have a VAT system from which tourists reclaim refunds.

Airport Timing

Allow ample time for the drive from Thimphu to Paro International Airport (1.5 to 2 hours).

Try to arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours before your scheduled flight departure.

Smooth Departure Tip

Plan to have your last Bhutanese meal and perhaps a final coffee in Thimphu before your transfer to Paro. This presents a pleasant farewell to the capital.
